In November 2014, staff from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation’s (DEEOIC) Espanola Resource Center will be hosting Traveling Resource Center events in Albuquerque, N.M. Staff from the resource center will be available to provide information about the program and assist individuals with the filing of new claims. All walk-ins are welcomed; however, scheduling an appointment time is recommended so that appropriate time and assistance can be provided.

Rocky Flats Expanded SEC Class

In January 2014 a new group of employees from the Rocky Flats Plant located in Golden, Colorado was added to the Special Exposure Cohort (SEC).  All employees of the Department of Energy, its predecessor agencies, and their contractors and subcontractors who worked at the Rocky Flats Plant in Golden, Colorado, from April 1, 1952, through December 31, 1983 may now have a clearer and quicker path to a successful claim under the EEOICPA.  If you were previously denied but now fall under the SEC class designation, you may be able to reopen your claim.

EEOICPA Town Hall Meeting in Amherst, NY

The Department of Labor is hosting two town hall meetings on Sept. 23 in Amherst, NY to provide information on the potential benefits available to DOE workers under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act, EEOICPA.

The meetings will take place at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Holiday Inn, 1881 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Amherst, NY 14228.

New medical care option in Burlington, Iowa

Nuclear Care Partners’ has opened a new office in Burlington, Iowa to help workers covered by the EEOICPA medical monitoring program.  Many former workers from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown need medical care and support as a result of their work for the facility.

 

EEOICPA event for Wah Chang, Albany Research Center

The EEOICPA is hosting an event for potential claimants for the Wah Chang, Albany Research Center site.  The purpose of the event is to review the program, answer questions, and accept new claims.  It is being held on Monday, Sept. 8 at 1400 Salem Ave SE, Albany, OR.

Nuclear Metals, Inc. Expanded SEC Class

On August 10th, 2014 a group of employees from Nuclear Metals, Inc. in West Concord, Massachusetts was added to the Special Exposure Cohort (SEC).  Atomic Weapons Employees who worked at Nuclear Metals, Inc. from January 1, 1980 through December 31, 1990 are now included in the SEC.  We hope this decision will help more people impacted by work at Nuclear Metals, Inc. file successful EEOICPA claims.

DEEOIC Outreach Event

At 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on February 19, 2014, officials from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation’s (DEEOIC) National Office will be hosting two town hall meetings at IBEW Local 68, 5660 Logan Street, Denver, CO 80216. They will be discussing the EEOICPA, the benefits provided under the program, and the new Rocky Flats Plant Special Exposure Cohort (SEC) class. In addition to the DEEOIC’s presentation, members of the Joint Outreach Task Group (JOTG), including representatives from the Department of Energy (DOE), DOE’s Former Worker Medical Screening Program, and the Department of Labor’s Office of the Ombudsman for the EEOICPA will also be presenting information. Representatives from Health and Human Services (HHS) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will be available to answer questions.
